SOCIETY FOR THE HUNTING, RECOGNITION & OBSERVATION OF MUSHROOMS
SHROOM

To get there:
A few kms past Madeira Park, turn left at the Petro-Can on Garden Bay Road. Follow this for about 7 kms. When you see the lake on your left, watch for the next right, which is Hammond Road (at the mailboxes). At the first fork, go left; at the second fork, go right - you're now on Bear Bay Road. Stay on this road for a few kms. At one point, the road makes a sharp bend to the left (you don't want to take Mixal Heights Road that goes straight at this point). After the road goes downhill, just before it makes another sharp turn to the left, you'll see the entrance to a logging road on your right. We'll meet here. You can park at the trail entrance or to the left of the black gate at the bend in the road (leave room for people to drive through the gate).
We'll meet at noon, so bring a lunch and we'll find a spot to sit and eat. This is my stomping grounds, but I haven't been back into that part of the forest for a few months. I've been seeing lots of Gyromitra lately and have heard a report of someone finding lots of morels in another area of the Coast, so who knows what we'll find? If nothing else, we'll get back to an old steam donkey left from the early logging days - bring your cameras if that interests you.
Hope to see a few of you up this way. If you have suggestions for other spring foray locations, let us know - it's always fun to get together for a hike, if nothing else.
